The City itself sports a population of 265,968 residence, with a makeup of 72.2% white, 27.1% black, and all others .7%. With a mild climate, and average rainfall of 52.16 inches, Birmingham is a very comfortable place to live.

Birmingham was founded in 1871, just after the U.S. Civil War, as an industrial enterprise. It was named after Birmingham, the major industrial city of England. Through the middle of the 20th century, Birmingham was the primary industrial center of the Southern United States.
