City Description

Alpharetta, Georgia

The Alpharetta of today is a far cry from its beginnings nearly a century and a half ago. From the North Georgia Mountains to the Chattahoochee River along a Cherokee Indian trail, a tiny village names New Prospect Camp Ground was formed. This village, made up of tents and a log school, became a trading post where Indians and white settlers exchanged their goods. The surrounding countryside provided excellent farming land, especially for cotton. On December 11, 1857, the town was chartered and became the county seat of Milton County. The town was renamed Alpharetta from the Greek words “alpha” meaning first and “retta” meaning town. In 1932, Milton County was merged into Fulton County.

In recent years, Alpharetta has been catapulted into the national spotlight by publications such as USA Today and Yahoo! Internet Life as one of the leading locations for technology focused in businesses. In the heart of the largest fiber-linked network in the United States, just minutes away from the world’s busiest airport, Atlanta Hartsfield International, and providing easy access to cutting-edge research universities, Alpharetta is the ideal location for companies on the forefront of the modern economy.
