Savannah, Georgia

Savannah is situated at the mouth of the Savannah River, which forms the border between Georgia and South Carolina. The city is precisely located at 31 degrees 4 minutes north latitude and 81 degrees 5 minutes west longitude. The area has a large network of rivers and creeks, many of them under tidal influence. The Intracoastal Waterway runs along the east coast, much of which is comprised of ecologically vital marshes.

Chatham County is the fifth largest county in the state of Georgia; from 1990 to 1998 the population grew at an estimated 10.7 percent. Savannah now has an approximate population of 285,507.
